A little about the chef: Coming from the Sacramento valley to attending culinary school in San Francisco and making his way to Austin, Texas, chef and owner Joe Holmberg has worked at some amazing restaurants. His background mainly consists of Italian cuisine, but his desire to learn more helps him move around and discover other cuisines. After working under some esteemed chefs in the bay (including nose to tail chef Chris Cosentino) for six years he has found his love for wine and the food that surrounds it.
Joe has grown to love small intimate spaces with people laughing, talking and just simply enjoying themselves. That love brings him back to Sacramento where he now opens his own wine bar called The Nook. The name comes from his late mother's love for books and his volunteering with her at the libraries where she worked. The food style is based on Spanish tapas, small plates consisting of different global styles, including many of his favorite dishes he loves to make at home. It's comfort food with big bold flavors and rich bites.
